Kalff, Founder)<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3 id=\"article1\">ARTICLE I &#8211; NAME AND LOCATION<\/h3>\n<p><strong>NAME: Israeli Sandplay Therapists Association (ISTA)<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>LOCATION:<\/strong> The registered office shall be established and maintained at the addresses of the Chairman and of the Secretary of ISTA. Correspondences will be sent by the Secretary to all ISTA members.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"article2\">ARTICLE II \u2013 DEFINITION, AFFILIATION AND OFFICIAL LANGUAGES<\/h3>\n<p>I.S.T.A. has been founded as a non-profit organization dedicated to the establishment of a group of trained Sandplay Therapists in Israel, to support and promote professional development in Sandplay Therapy (theory, clinical practice and research) in the tradition of Dora Kalff, based on the theories of C.G. Jung.<\/p>\n<p><em>* Sandplay Therapy is a therapeutic method developed by Dora Kalff and based on the psychological principles of C. G. Jung and Erich Neumann. Sandplay is a creative form of therapy in using imagination, &#8220;a concentrated extract of the life forces both physical and psychic&#8221; (C. G. Jung). It is characterized by the use of sand, water and miniatures in the creation of images within the &#8220;free and protected space&#8221; of the therapeutic relationship and the sand tray. A series of Sandplay images portrayed in the sand tray create an ongoing dialogue between the conscious and the unconscious aspects of the client&#8217;s psyche which activates a healing process and the development of personality.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Israeli Sandplay Therapists Association (&#8220;I.S.T.A&#8221;) is a member of the International Society for Sandplay Therapy (&#8220;ISST&#8221;), founded by Dora M. Kalff. All ISST certified members are members of ISTA and pay dues to ISTA that include the dues paid for each member by ISTA to ISST. Membership in both ISTA and ISST is required for certified members.<\/p>\n<p>Hebrew and English are the official languages of ISTA. Statutes and regulations are binding in these two languages.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Definitions:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>&#8220;Board&#8221;<\/strong> refers to every member certified by ISST and ISTA<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Executive Committee&#8221;<\/strong> refers to 5 elected officers:<br \/>\nISTA Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, chair of Training Committee, and chair of Certification Committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;The General Assembly&#8221;<\/strong> includes the Board, as well as Advanced Candidates and Associate Members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Advanced Candidate&#8221;<\/strong> refers to a person who has completed the requirements to become an ISST Certified Sandplay Therapist and is being supervised by an ISST Certified Sandplay Supervisor, and in the process of writing and working towards completed final sandplay case study to be submitted for Certification to ISST. (see article IV-C).<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Certified Sandplay Therapist&#8221;<\/strong> (CST) refers to a person who has completed all of the requirements to become an ISST Certified Sandplay Therapist, and whose final case study has been approved by ISST. (see article IV-D).<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Certified Sandplay Therapist \u2013 Teacher&#8221;<\/strong> (CST-T) refers to a person who meets all qualifications for Certified Sandplay Therapist, plus additional requirements of ISST\/ISTA to be a teacher. (see article IV-E)<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Member&#8221;<\/strong> refers to a person who is a member of both ISTA and ISST and is either a CST or CST-T.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Associate Member&#8221;<\/strong> refers to a person who wishes to participate in the activities of ISTA and to use the databases of ISTA&#8217;s website, and is either a Jungian analyst, or is a mental health professional who has completed a comprehensive program of study of at least 120 hours in a recognized sandplay training program, but does not wish to complete the Sandplay certification process. (see article IV-G).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"article3\">ARTICLE III \u2013PURPOSES AND GOALS<\/h3>\n<p>The mission of The Israeli Sandplay Therapists Association (ISTA) is to train, support, and promote professional development in sandplay in the spirit of Dora Kalff as based on the theories of C.G. Jung and Erich Neumann.\u00a0\u00a0 It will support further development of this form of therapy through scientific research and support an expansion of theory in training programs, relevant to sandplay, reflecting the growth of knowledge in the international community as evidenced in the literature and at conferences.<br \/>\nIts goals are:<br \/>\n1.Promotion of the study of Sandplay Therapy.<\/p>\n<p>2.Promotion of qualified standards of training and practice on the basis of ethical therapeutic conduct.<\/p>\n<p>3.Propagation and dissemination of knowledge about Sandplay Therapy, establishment of a library of Sandplay literature and symbol papers in Hebrew, within ethical boundaries and protecting client confidentiality.<\/p>\n<p>4.Teaching Sandplay Therapy to professionals working in public facilities in Israel (medical and psychiatric hospitals, psychological clinics, and therapeutic educational institutions), which serve disadvantaged populations and victims of trauma. Developing Sandplay facilities in these institutions and creating outreach programs for conflicted areas.<br \/>\n5. Organization and execution of conventions in Israel.<br \/>\n6. Maintenance and updating of a website of ISTA which will include a database of abstracts of the papers and research already done in Hebrew.<br \/>\n<strong>The members of ISTA pledge themselves to creating and following rules of equal rights which forbid all discrimination on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, gender and sexual preference in relation to applications for membership in training programs and public events organized by ISTA.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"article4\">ARTICLE IV &#8211; MEMBERSHIP<\/h3>\n<p><strong>A.CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There shall be four (4) categories of membership in this organization: Advanced Candidate<br \/>\nCertified Sandplay Therapist (CST)<br \/>\nCertified Sandplay Therapist \u2013 Teacher (CST-T)<br \/>\nAssociate Member.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B.PRE-QUALIFICATIONS FOR TRAINING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1) Graduate degree from an accredited college or university in a helping profession such as psychiatry,\u00a0 psychology, clinical social work, expressive therapies from an accredited program, and a state license, credential or certificate, or equivalent, as a mental health professional.<br \/>\n2) At least two years of clinical experience after receiving the license.<br \/>\n3) Commitment to in-depth inner development and insight as gained through analysis and\/or psychotherapy and experience of a personal sandplay process with an ISST qualified therapist.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C. ADVANCED CANDIDATE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Training requirements for being an Advanced Candidate<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1) Complete a recognized 120 hour sandplay training program.<\/p>\n<p>2) Completed or about to complete a personal therapeutic sandplay process with a certified ISST member. Although no required number of sandtrays is designated, it is generally felt that creation of a minimum of 25 sandtrays is necessary to experience an in-depth Sandplay process. The personal Sandplay process must have been experienced within the last 10 years prior to the date of application, although it may overlap the completion of other training requirements.<\/p>\n<p>3) Has completed two papers, with a theme relevant to the field of sandplay such as a symbol or other theme. One paper will contain clinical material.<\/p>\n<p>4) Is completing hours of Consultation\/supervision, individually or in groups with a certified ISST teaching member, on work with clients who engage in sandplay on a regular basis.<\/p>\n<p>5) Is being supervised by an ISST Certified Sandplay Supervisor, in writing and working towards completed final sandplay case study to be submitted for Certification to ISST.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D.CERTIFIED SANDPLAY THERAPIST (CST)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Pre-qualifications for becoming a CST:<\/span> as in article IV-B, see page 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Qualifications for certified membership:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1) Completion of personal psychotherapeutic sandplay process with certified ISST member, (as above, a minimum of 25 sandplay sessions).<\/p>\n<p>2) Completion of comprehensive program of study of at least 120 hours in a recognized sandplay training program, whose curriculum is based on ISST standards.<\/p>\n<p>3) Consultation with certified ISST teaching member -at least 80 hours of which 30 must be individual and 50 may be in group provided that the candidate brings his or her own material for at least 10 hours of the group sessions.<\/p>\n<p>4) Approval of two preliminary papers.<\/p>\n<p>5) Acceptance as candidate for CST membership<\/p>\n<p>6) Approval of the final case study by three ISST approved case-readers at least one of whom will be an ISTA member.<\/p>\n<p>*Upon attainment of this credential, the CST can engage others in a personal process.<\/p>\n<p><strong>E.CERTIFIED SANDPLAY THERAPIST \u2013 TEACHER (CST-T)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Teaching Members of ISTA shall meet the membership qualifications for Certified Sandplay Therapist, plus additional requirements as established.<br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Requirements to become a teaching member:<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1) Conference attendance:\u00a0 A member must attend at least one international ISST conference.<\/p>\n<p>2) Select a teaching consultant: A new Member must select a Teaching Member to act as a consultant\/mentor\/guide to assist the Member to:<br \/>\na.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Become familiar with the Sandplay Curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>b.Prepare at least three cases for presentation in addition to the case that is the subject of the final case report.<\/p>\n<p>c.Present at least one case at a regional, national or international conference and receive\u00a0\u00a0 written evaluation forms.<br \/>\nd.Develop skills in consulting and reading of preliminary papers.<br \/>\ne.Teach at least one introductory class on Sandplay for a minimum of three hours in the presence of a CST.<\/p>\n<p>3) Time Frame: There is no deadline for the completion of these requirements. Individuals are encouraged to work towards meeting these requirements at a pace that is comfortable for them.<\/p>\n<p>4) To Document: Regarding the case presentation and Introductory Course teaching requirements, written evaluation forms from the participants are required and must be reviewed by the Teaching Consultant who is responsible for making a final decision that the requirements are successfully met. Once all case preparation and teaching requirements are met, the Teaching Consultant writes a letter of recommendation for admission as a Teaching Member addressed to the ISTA Board and sent to the Membership Chair.<br \/>\n*Upon attainment of this credential, a CST-T can provide supervision to Sandplay trainees.<\/p>\n<p><strong>F.ASSOCIATE MEMBER<\/strong><br \/>\nThis category includes:<br \/>\na.Mental health professionals who have completed a comprehensive program of study of at least 120 hours in a recognized sandplay training program, whose curriculum is based on ISST standards, and do not wish to complete the Sandplay certification process, but wish to participate in the activities of ISTA and to use the databases of ISTA&#8217;s website.<\/p>\n<p>b.Jungian analysts who are interested in attending ISTA&#8217;s activities and\/ or wish to use the databases of ISTA&#8217;s website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>G.EXCEPTIONS<\/strong><br \/>\nExceptions shall be made only in exceptional circumstances and will be decided upon by a unanimous vote of the 5 elected members of the Executive Committee. Exceptions shall not be made regarding completing a sandplay process with an ISST member or fulfilling the required hours of consultation with an ISTA\/ISST Teaching Member, or in the case of Certified Members- writing two papers and a formally approved final case study.<br \/>\nCertain professions, such as psychiatric nurses, special education teachers, educational counselors, or occupational therapists, may study Sandplay therapy, and comply with the requirements for attaining the status of Advanced Candidate. Only after they complete studies of psychotherapy and acquire supervised clinical experience in their psychotherapeutic profession, they will be allowed to complete their certification process in Sandplay therapy and write their Sandplay case presentation.<\/p>\n<p><strong>H.APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP<\/strong><br \/>\nApplications for membership in ISTA shall be addressed to the official office address of the ISTA Secretary and shall be in accordance with the instructions provided by ISTA Israeli Sandplay Therapist Association for each specific category of membership.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I.LIABILITY INSURANCE<\/strong><br \/>\nAll certified members of ISTA shall carry a liability insurance as professional therapists when teaching and conducting psychotherapy in Israel. ISTA is not liable or responsible for any indemnities stemming from malpractice of its members. Every member is personally responsible for his or her own ethical and professional conduct.<\/p>\n<p><strong>J.MEMBERSHIP RESIGNATION POLICY<\/strong><br \/>\nAny member may resign at any time. Resignations shall be made in writing to the Chair of the Executive Committee. Resignation shall take effect at the time specified in the member\u2019s resignation letter and, if no time is specified, at the time of its receipt by the chair of the Chair of the Executive Committee. The chair of the Executive Committee will inform the Executive Committee and Board of the resignation. No dues will be returned.<\/p>\n<p><strong>K.DUES<\/strong><br \/>\nAt present all ISTA members are certified members of ISST and pay dues directly to ISST. After ISTA will become a national association, the Board will discuss the payment and amount of dues to ISTA in addition to maintaining membership in ISST. The Board will also specify which categories of membership will have the duty to pay local dues.<br \/>\nDues to be paid to ISST by the National Societies are calculated as follows: the number of ISST members of the National Society, as of Jan. 1st of each year, is to be multiplied by the dues stipulated for Individual Members. The National Societies are obligated to report in writing each year before January 31st to the Treasurer the number of their ISST members by January 1st.<br \/>\nDues must be paid to ISST by March 31 of the current year.<br \/>\nA special dues rate will apply for members who are retired or disabled and who wish to retain their membership but have difficulty in paying the full amount. Such amount will be determined by the ISST Board.<br \/>\nIndividual Members who do not duly pay their dues get one reminder and a fine.\u00a0 After the set term they lose their membership without further notice; they shall be stricken from the membership list and no longer have the right to claim membership in the ISST.<br \/>\nISST members of the National Societies who do not duly pay their dues to their Society get one reminder from their Society. After the set term they lose the right to claim membership in the ISST; they shall be stricken from the lists. The National Society remains obligated to pay the dues for that member according to Art. 24, Par.1.\u00a0 See\u00a0 ISST Rules of Procedures.<br \/>\nMembers who are expelled because of failure to pay dues can be re-instated after payment of the debt and hence once more receive the right to identify themselves as members of the ISST.<\/p>\n<p><strong>L. TERMINATION OF MEMBERSHIP and LAPSED MEMBERSHIP\/ NON-PAYMENT OF DUES:<\/strong><br \/>\n1. Rights and privileges of membership shall be terminated for non-payment of ISTA dues.<\/p>\n<p>2. Rights and privileges of certified membership (CST and CST-T) shall be terminated for non-payment of ISST dues.<\/p>\n<p>3. Through action of the ISTA Ethics and Grievance committee, membership in ISTA may be revoked.<\/p>\n<p>4. On a yearly basis, the treasurer will contact certified members and sandplay practitioners who have not paid their dues.<\/p>\n<p><strong>M. REINSTATEMENT OF MEMBERSHIP:<\/strong><br \/>\nReinstatement of a certified member who has resigned in good standing or has lost membership due to non-payment of dues should be handled by the Executive Committee which shall process the request. The person requesting reinstatement should draft a letter to the chair of the Executive committee requesting reinstatement. If there are ambiguities or special concerns, the chair shall make a recommendation and confer with the Board. If someone lost membership due to non-payment of dues and did not formally resign, he or she cannot then rejoin without payment of back dues.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"article5\">ARTICLE V \u2013 ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF ISTA AND MEETING OF MEMBERS<\/h3>\n<p><strong>A.THE ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF ISTA IS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>a.The Executive Committee:<\/strong><\/span> includes the ISTA Chairman, the Treasurer, the Secretary, the chairman of the Training Committee and the chairman of the Certification Committee.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>b.The Board:<\/strong><\/span> includes all Certified Sandplay Therapists (ISTA and ISST certified members).\u00a0 The Board meets when needed, but at least once a year. The Executive Committee determines the date, time, place and business of the meeting of members. The Executive Committee will give advance notice to all the members, and all members will have the opportunity to add to the agenda.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>c.The General Assembly<\/strong><\/span> includes the Board, as well as Advanced Candidates and Associate Members.<\/p>\n<p>d.The Board elects the Executive Committee: Chairman (president), Secretary and Treasurer, the chairman of the Training Committee and the chairman of the Certification Committee.<\/p>\n<p>e.The Board may pass resolutions when at least 3 Executive Committee Members are present and 60% of the members vote.<\/p>\n<p>f.A resolution is passed by a simple majority of the Board members present. In case of a tie, the Chairman (the president) will cast the deciding vote.<\/p>\n<p>g.A vote by mail, fax and or\/e-mail is permitted; it shall be recorded in the minutes of the following Board session.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B.SPECIAL MEETINGS:<\/strong><br \/>\nSpecial meetings of the membership, unless otherwise prescribed by statute or by the charter, shall be called by the Chair of the Executive Committee at the request, in writing, of a majority of the Board.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C.NOTICE OF MEETINGS<\/strong><br \/>\nWritten notice, stating the place, date, time and general nature of the business to be considered, of the annual meeting or any special meeting, shall be given to each member entitled to vote not less than ten (10) days or more than ninety (90) days before the date of the meeting.\u00a0\u00a0 The secretary will send email reminder three days before confirming upcoming event to all voting members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D.MEMBERS ENTITLED TO VOTE<\/strong><br \/>\nMembers in the following two categories are entitled to vote: Certified Sandplay Therapists- Teachers (CSTT), and Certified Sandplay Therapists (CST).<\/p>\n<p><strong>E.ACTION BY VOTING: MEETINGS<\/strong><br \/>\nEach member entitled to vote may cast one vote, either in person or by written proxy, except as otherwise provided by law, the charter, or these bylaws. All questions shall be decided by a majority of the votes cast by members attending the meeting and entitled to vote and by written proxies from members entitled to vote. Upon demand of any member, any vote may be taken by closed ballot.<\/p>\n<p><strong>F.ACTION BY VOTING: MAIL BALLOT<\/strong><br \/>\nEach member entitled to vote may cast one vote within a time span identified by the Executive Committee. All questions shall be decided by a majority of the votes cast, except as otherwise provided by law, the charter, or these bylaws.<\/p>\n<p><strong>G.EXCEPTIONS TO VOTING POLICY<\/strong><br \/>\nTo amend the procedures for membership in the Israeli Sandplay Therapists Association, the Code of Ethics for members of the Israeli Sandplay Therapists Association, or the Bylaws of this association, shall require a vote of at least two-thirds (2\/3) of the members present at the meeting that are entitled to vote.<\/p>\n<p><strong>H.QUORUM<\/strong><br \/>\nExcept as otherwise required by law, the charter, or these bylaws, a majority of members attending a meeting, including the written proxies, constitute a quorum. If it is recognized that a quorum is not present, a majority of the members entitled to vote then present or by proxy shall have the power to adjourn the meeting from time to time without notice, other than announcing the adjournment, until the requisite number of members entitled to vote are represented.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I.PROXIES<\/strong><br \/>\nMembers may vote either in person or by written proxy. Proxies shall be filed with the member responsible for recording the proceedings of the meeting, normally the secretary of the corporation.\u00a0 A proxy shall be valid only for the meeting in question.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"article6\">ARTICLE VI \u2013 THE BOARD<\/h3>\n<p><strong>A.NUMBER<\/strong><br \/>\nThe affairs of ISTA shall be managed by, and all corporate functions, powers, rights, duties and privileges, unless otherwise prescribed by statute, the charter or by these bylaws, shall be exercised by the Board. The Board consists of all ISST\/ISTA members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B.DESIGNATION, TERM, CLASSES AND ELECTION<\/strong><br \/>\nInitially all voting members are members of the Board.<br \/>\nQualifications for membership on the board: Certification by ISTA\/ISST and is committed to participation in ISTA activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C.RESIGNATIONS<\/strong><br \/>\nAny board member may resign at any time. Such resignations shall be made in writing and shall take effect at the time specified therein. If no time is specified, the resignation shall take effect at the time of its receipt by the chair of the Board.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D.REMOVAL WITH CAUSE<\/strong><br \/>\nA Board member may be removed with cause at any time by a two-thirds (2\/3) vote of the Board by a majority vote of the voting members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>E.REGULAR MEETINGS AND QUORUM<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Board shall meet no less than once (1) a year preferably before March 31st of each year. A majority of the board shall constitute a quorum. An annual meeting of the Board shall be held at a place, time and date determined by the members. In the event that the members fail to determine the time, date, and place of their meeting, the annual meeting shall be held at a reasonable location with 10 days notice, to be determined by the Executive Committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>F.SPECIAL MEETINGS<\/strong><br \/>\nSpecial meetings of the Board shall be called by the Chair or by a majority of the members. Members shall be given at least two (2) weeks notice of a special meeting and such notice shall specify the purpose of the meeting.<br \/>\nIn the event that ISTA is accepted by ISST as a National Association, the first meeting of all members shall be held before March 31st 2010. Elections for the five posts of the Executive Committee will be held at this meeting. The five posts are: Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, chairman of the Training Committee, chairman of the Certifications Committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>G.VOTING<\/strong><br \/>\nEach member of the Board shall have one (1) vote.<\/p>\n<p><strong>H.ADJOURNMENT<\/strong><br \/>\nA majority of the members present, whether or not a quorum is present, may adjourn either a regular or a special meeting to another time or place.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"article7\">ARTICLE VII \u2013 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OFFICERS<\/h3>\n<p>Executive Committee: Initially Executive Members will be elected for one year during the transition period.\u00a0\u00a0 Following this year, executive members will be elected for a term of three years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A.ELECTION OF OFFICERS<\/strong><br \/>\nThe officers of the organization\/ ISTA shall consist of the chairperson, secretary, treasurer, chairman of training committee, and chairman of certification committee.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B.OFFICERS<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>1.CHAIR:<\/strong> The chair shall serve as the chief executive officer of the association, having general supervision over the business of the association and over its several officers subject, however, to the control of the Board. The secretary is also responsible for recording the proceedings of all meetings of the association and the Board, and maintaining the archives of these proceedings. In case of his or her absence or disability, the chair or members shall appoint another person to perform these functions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.TREASURER:<\/strong> The treasurer shall serve as the chief financial officer of the association and shall disburse funds as may be ordered by the chair or members, taking proper vouchers for such disbursements. TERM OF OFFICE<\/strong><br \/>\nOfficers shall be selected by the Board for three (3) year terms. Any position of an officer not filled at the annual meeting of the Board may be filled by the members at any meeting.\u00a0 The members may also elect other agents as is deemed necessary. The Board may define the duties and powers of the officers of the association in accordance with these bylaws. A Board member elected for a three- year term can be re-elected for one more consecutive 3-year term. He or she can be re-elected for a third term only after a break of at least one term during which another member serves in that role.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D.RESIGNATIONS<\/strong><br \/>\nAny officer may resign at any time. Such resignations should be made in writing and shall take effect at the time specified in the letter of resignation and, if no time is specified, at the time of its receipt by another officer. The acceptance of a resignation shall not be necessary to make it effective.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"article7b\">ARTICLE VII \u2013 STANDING COMMITTEES<\/h3>\n<p><strong>A. TRAINING COMMITTEE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1) The Training Committee plans, oversees, coordinates, and integrates education and training for ISTA training programs. As the number of certified members of ISTA increases through acceptance into ISST, the content of a training program may expand with new knowledge to be added to the basic training curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>2) The Training Committee shall be composed of 3 members, elected by a majority of the members at the regular annual meeting, for a term of three years.\u00a0\u00a0 The chairman of the training committee shall be a CST-T. The remaining two members may be CST members. Nomination may be reopened at the annual meeting by a two-third (2\/3) vote of the members.<\/p>\n<p><strong>B. CERTIFICATION COMMITTEE (ADMISSIONS)<\/strong><br \/>\n1) The Certification Committee validates the candidates&#8217; qualifications for admission to ISTA and oversees the certifying process. The committee reviews the applications for membership in accordance with the requirements detailed in article IV, 4.<\/p>\n<p>2) The Certification Committee shall be composed of 3 members, elected by a majority of the members at the regular annual meeting, for a term of three years. Nomination may be reopened at the annual meeting by a two-third (2\/3) vote of the members.<\/p>\n<p>3) The committee (or delegated sub-committees) shall meet with applicants to ISTA after the applicant has completed the training requirements to become a candidate for certified membership (CST) to determine his or her personal readiness to proceed with completing the final case study and receiving supervision to become a certified member in ISTA.<\/p>\n<p>4) The Committee will accompany the candidate through the process of certification by ISST.<\/p>\n<p>5) The Certification Committee works in an advisory capacity to confirm and approve CST members wishing to become CST-T.<\/p>\n<p><strong>C. ETHICS REVIEW COMMITTEE (ERC)<\/strong><br \/>\nThe Ethics Committee shall receive and review allegations of ethical violations. Following procedures recommended by the Code of Ethics of ISST and approved by the Board, the Ethics Review Committee shall investigate the allegations and determine a course of action.\u00a0 The Ethics Review Committee shall be composed of three (3) senior members elected for three (3) year terms by a majority of the members at the regular annual meeting.<\/p>\n<p>ISTA standards of ethical practice and conduct are based on the ethical rules of the Israeli Psychotherapy Associations and the ISST Code of Ethics.<\/p>\n<p><strong>D. SUPERVISION \/ CONSULTATION<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Requirements:<\/strong><br \/>\nSupervision (consultation) should be given by a CST-T teaching member of ISTA\/ISST \u2013 who is not the therapist of the candidate. There may be special exceptions at the present time (2009-2010) due to the limited number of ISST certified sandplay therapists in Israel. The eventual training goal is that a sandplay trainee meets with different certified sandplay therapists in the categories of personal sandplay therapist, theoretical teacher and sandplay supervisor.<br \/>\nA minimum of 80 hours of Sandplay case supervision\/consultation: At least 30 of these hours must be individual case supervision with a CST-T. The remaining 50 hours may be obtained in group supervision\/consultation.\u00a0 The applicant must present his or her own case material for at least 10 hours out of the 50 group supervision sessions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3. PRELIMINARY PAPERS<\/strong><br \/>\nSubmission and approval of two preliminary papers is required. Each paper must be between 10 to 20 double-spaced pages. One paper must be an in-depth exploration of a symbol, archetypal image or theme. The second paper may be an exploration of another symbol or it may address any theoretical aspect of Sandplay of interest to the applicant. At least one paper should include clinical case material. Each paper must be written according to APA standards, contain\u00a0 a table of contents, and list of illustrations, progress from theoretical, or other research material to illustrative case examples in at least one paper, and contain a bibliography in English and Hebrew. Each paper must be read and approved by two ISTA members. These papers indicate the candidate\u2019s knowledge and assimilation of theoretical material, and the ability to research and amplify knowledge on the symbol or subject chosen. Writing should be clear and organized and meet contemporary professional standards.<br \/>\nPreliminary papers should be written after the applicant has completed a significant portion of his\/her personal Sandplay process, completed a significant portion of course study, and established a clinical Sandplay practice.<\/p>\n<p><strong>LIBRARY:<\/strong> Each paper will be presented to the supervisor with a binding, and be filed by the supervisor in a Library designated for storing preliminary papers and final case study copies. This material can be made available to sandplay trainees to enhance their understanding with the permission of the author and with considerations of the standards and restraints of ethical confidentiality.<br \/>\n<strong> CASE STUDY:<\/strong> The final case study will be submitted to 3 approved readers (two approved national readers and one international).\u00a0 The case study should be between 30 and 50 pages of text, with 1 \u00bd spacing in which the content will reflect a complete and comprehensive individual Sandplay therapy process complying with ISST standards and requirements for therapeutic sandplay process.\u00a0 The case study will include clinical evaluation, description, and outcome information along with a thorough examination of the symbolic meanings of the sandplay images, the overall sandplay process, and their contribution to the therapeutic outcome.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 With the help of his or her advisor, the candidate should contact the readers of his\/hers paper, send a hard printed copy of the case to each, or a CD according to the reader\u2019s preference, with a request for a written response, and the fee the advisor asks for, and includes SASEs for return of response to his or her advisor. The candidate completes his or her training process when the paper was accepted and approved by the three readers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"appendix3\">APPENDIX\u00a0 III<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Requirements for ISST Membership for Qualified Jungian Analysts:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Sandplay was developed by Dora Kalff and is based on the psychological principles of C.G. Jung. It is proposed that fully qualified Jungian Analysts may undergo an adapted training for ISST membership. Kalff)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose and Goals of the International Society for Sandplay Therapy (ISST)<\/strong><br \/>\nThe International Society for Sandplay Therapy (ISST) is an international organization of legal and natural persons trained in Sandplay Therapy who are engaged in the practice of this form of therapy and its further development through scientific research.\u00a0 Its goals are:<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Promotion of the study of Sandplay Therapy.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Propagation and dissemination of knowledge about Sandplay Therapy.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Promotion of qualified standards of training and practice on the basis of ethical therapeutic conduct.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0Organization and execution of congresses and conventions.<br \/>\nThe society pursues these goals with due consideration of the autonomous status and professional interests of its ISST-certified members of the national societies, as well as its individual members.<br \/>\nThe members of ISST pledge themselves to creating and following rules of equal rights, which forbid all discrimination on the basis of race, religion, ethnicity, gender and sexual preference in relation to applications for membership in professional organizations, training programs, and public events organized by ISST.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Purpose of ISST <em>Code of Ethics<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nThe ISST <em>Code of Ethics<\/em> serves four main purposes:<br \/>\n1.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The Code enables the society to clarify the nature of the ethical responsibilities held in common by its current and future members, and those served by members.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The Code helps support the mission of the society.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The Code serves as an ethical guide designed to assist members in constructing a professional course of action that best serves those utilizing Sandplay Therapy and best promotes the values of ISST.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0The Code serves as the basis for adjudication of ethical complaints and inquiries initiated against members of the society.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Application of ISST <em>Code of Ethics<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nThis Code applies to all ISST-certified members of national societies (legal persons), ISST-certified direct members (natural persons), ISST honorary members, and candidates for certification.\u00a0 These ethical principles are not intended to create any legal liability on the part of the members of ISST.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SECTION A<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Professional Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A.1. <strong>Primary Responsibility.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates should conduct themselves according to the highest ethical standards and shall hold the best interests of their clients to be paramount.\u00a0 This responsibility is central to being an ISST member or candidate.<\/p>\n<p>A.2. <strong>Familiarity with Standards.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates are expected to be familiar with and abide by these standards.<\/p>\n<p>A.3. <strong>Applicable Laws.<\/strong>\u00a0 In addition to the standards cited in this document, each ISST member and candidate shall comply with applicable national and regional laws and professional regulations governing the conduct of his or her licensed and\/or certified specialty within the country, region, or state in which he or she practices.<\/p>\n<p>A.4. <strong>Informed Consent.<\/strong>\u00a0 Before therapy begins, ISST members and candidates shall\u00a0\u00a0 state clearly the nature of the treatment method to be used, the length and frequency of sessions, fee arrangements, where and when meetings shall take place, and conditions for cancellation of sessions.<\/p>\n<p>A.5. <strong>Records.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates maintain records necessary for rendering professional services to their clients and as required by local laws, regulations, or agency or institutional procedures.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SECTION B<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Confidentiality<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>B.1. <strong>Confidentiality.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates respect client rights to privacy and do not share confidential information without client consent or without sound legal or ethical justification.<\/p>\n<p>B.2. <strong>Explanation of Confidentiality Limitations.<\/strong>\u00a0 At initiation and throughout the therapeutic process, ISST members and candidates inform clients of the limitations of confidentiality and seek to identify foreseeable situations in which confidentiality must be breached.<\/p>\n<p>B.3. <strong>Professional Use of Client Material.<\/strong>\u00a0 Identity and confidentiality of clients must be protected when client material is used in professional settings. When material is presented in large venues, such as conferences, public presentations, journal articles, and books, written permission shall be obtained from the client and\/or parent(s) or legal guardian.<\/p>\n<p>B.4. <strong>Confidentiality of Case Study.<\/strong>\u00a0 With the submission of the final case study, a signed statement from the candidate must be included verifying that the candidate holds written permission from the client regarding use of case material.<\/p>\n<p>B.5. <strong>Confidentiality of Records.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates ensure that records are kept in a secure location and that only authorized persons have access to records.<\/p>\n<p>B.6. <strong>Transmitting Confidential Information.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates take precautions to ensure the confidentiality of information transmitted electronically, including but not limited to electronic mail, voicemail, answering machines, facsimile machines, and websites.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SECTION C<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Relationships with Clients<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">C.1. <strong>Dual Relationships.<\/strong>\u00a0 Non professional relationships with clients, their romantic partners, or their family members should be avoided.<\/p>\n<p>C.2. <strong>Dual Relationships with Candidates.<\/strong>\u00a0 It is recognized that in some cases members of ISST may assume dual roles in the training of sandplay therapists. Special consideration must be undertaken to preserve the boundaries between the personal psychotherapeutic process and the supervision and training of candidate.\u00a0 In the view of ISST, the supervisor(s) should be different from the personal process therapist.\u00a0 Further, the candidate\u2019s supervisor(s), personal process therapist, and advisor must not serve as a formal evaluator of the final case study.<\/p>\n<p>C.3. <strong>Avoiding Harm.<\/strong> ISST members and candidates act to avoid harming their clients and supervisees and to minimize or to remedy unavoidable or unanticipated harm.\u00a0 Sexual or romantic therapist-client interactions or\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 relationships with current clients, their romantic partners, or their family members are prohibited.<\/p>\n<p>C.4. <strong>Abandonment Prohibited.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates do not abandon or neglect clients.\u00a0 Therefore, during interruptions, such as vacations and illness, therapists assist in making appropriate arrangements for continuation of treatment, when necessary.<\/p>\n<p>C.5. <strong>Appropriate Termination.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates terminate a therapy relationship when it becomes reasonably apparent that the client no longer needs assistance, is not likely to benefit from, or is being harmed by continued therapy. Pretermination therapy or closure sessions are provided and other service providers are recommended when necessary.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SECTION D<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Professional Conduct<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>D.1. <strong>Professional Competence.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates practice only within the boundaries of their competence and use techniques for which they are qualified, based on their education, training, supervised experience, state, regional, and national professional credentials and appropriate professional experience.<\/p>\n<p>D.2. <strong>Misrepresentation.<\/strong> ISST members and candidates may not misrepresent their academic background, professional training, experience, or professional affiliations.\u00a0 They may not advertise to the public using materials that contain inaccurate or untruthful claims about their preparation or the techniques and approaches they use in therapy.<\/p>\n<p>D.3. <strong>Continuing Development.\u00a0<\/strong> ISST members and candidates maintain high standards of competence and continue to pursue their personal and professional growth and development.<\/p>\n<p>D.4. <strong>Consultation on Ethical Obligations.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates take reasonable steps to consult with other ISST members, therapists, or related professionals when they have questions regarding their ethical obligations or professional practice.<\/p>\n<p>D. 5. <strong>Impairment.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates refrain from undertaking any activity in which their personal problems or physical or mental impairments are likely to lead to inadequate performance or harm to a client, colleague, or supervisee.\u00a0 If engaged in such activity, they must seek competent professional assistance to determine whether they should suspend, terminate, or limit the scope of their professional activities.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SECTION E<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Resolving Ethical Issues<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">E.1. <strong>Knowledge.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates shall understand the ISST Code of Ethics, other applicable ethics codes from professional organizations, and from certification and licensure bodies of which they are members.\u00a0 Lack of knowledge or misunderstanding of an ethical responsibility is not a defense against a charge of unethical conduct.<\/p>\n<p>E.2. <strong>Conflicts Between Ethics and Laws.<\/strong>\u00a0 If ethical responsibilities conflict with law, regulations, or other governing legal authority, ISST members or candidates take steps to resolve the conflict.\u00a0 If the conflict cannot be resolved, adherence to the requirements of law, regulations or other governing legal authority takes precedence.<\/p>\n<p>E.3. <strong>Ethical Behavior Expected.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates expect ISST colleagues to adhere to the Code of Ethics.\u00a0 When members and candidates possess knowledge that raises doubts as to whether another ISST colleague is acting in an ethical manner, they take appropriate action.\u00a0 (See E.4., E.5, E.6, and E.7. below.)<\/p>\n<p>E.4. <strong>Informal Resolution.<\/strong>\u00a0 When ISST members and candidates have reason to believe that another member or candidate is violating or has violated an ethical standard, they attempt first to resolve the issue informally with the other colleague if feasible, provided such action does not violate any confidentiality rights that may be involved.<\/p>\n<p>E.5. <strong>Reporting Ethical Violations.<\/strong>\u00a0 If an apparent violation has substantially harmed, or is likely to substantially harm, a person or organization and is not appropriate for informal resolution or is not resolved properly, ISST members and candidates take further action appropriate to the situation.\u00a0 Such action might include referral to state, regional, or national committees on professional ethics, voluntary national certification bodies, state licensing boards, ISST Ethics Committee, or to the appropriate institutional authorities.\u00a0 This standard does not apply when an intervention would violate national or regional confidentiality regulations (SEE G.4.).<\/p>\n<p>E.6. <strong>Consultation.<\/strong>\u00a0 When uncertain as to whether a particular situation or course of action may be in violation of the ISST Code of Ethics, ISST members and candidates consult with others who are knowledgeable about ethics and the ISST Code of Ethics, with professional colleagues, or with appropriate authorities.<\/p>\n<p>E.7. <strong>Cooperation With Ethics Committees.<\/strong>\u00a0 ISST members and candidates assist in the process of enforcing the ISST Code of Ethics and cooperate with investigations, proceedings, and requirements of the ISST Ethics Committee or ethics committees of other duly constituted associations or boards having jurisdiction over those charged with a violation (SEE Section G).<\/p>\n<p>E.8. <strong>Unwarranted Complaints.<\/strong> ISST members and candidates do not initiate, participate in, or encourage the filing of ethics complaints that are made with reckless disregard or willful ignorance of facts that would disprove the allegation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SECTION F<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Grounds for Expulsion from ISST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>F1. <strong>Possible Grounds.<\/strong> Should an ISST member or candidate be expelled from an affiliated or other recognized professional association, be de-licensed in his or her field of practice, or be convicted of a felony, ISST shall investigate and adjudicate the matter in accordance with the procedures promulgated by ISST (SEE Section G).<\/p>\n<p>F.2.<strong> Mental or Physical Disability.<\/strong> Any physical or mental disability (e.g., senility, substance abuse) that causes an ISST member or candidate to be unable to perform the service implicit in the psychotherapeutic contract or to fulfill his or her responsibilities as a member in good standing in ISST, and\/or the professional community shall be grounds for ISST to institute its own investigation and adjudication of the conduct of a member or candidate of ISST.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>SECTION G<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong> Procedures for Possible Expulsion from ISST<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>G.1. Wherever possible, complaints will be resolved by the national society using their rules and procedures.<\/p>\n<p>G.2. The national society will inform the ISST Board of the complaint and report\u00a0 developments and outcomes related to the complaint.<\/p>\n<p>G.3. If the complaint cannot be resolved locally, the national society may request assistance from the ISST Board.<\/p>\n<p>G.4.
